International Transfer Students 2009

chlormel, ill try to answer ur questions in sequence.

I highly recommend applying again to the schools where you got waitlisted and then rejected. One of my friends told me that colleges really like if they apply again after being rejected. This shows demonstrated interest. Altho im pretty sure that if you apply again after being waitlisted, you will probably get in as long as you have got good grades at ur college since the waitlist shows how close u were to getting in the first time. Besides, even getting waitlisted at a school like dart is an achievement

2.Please read my post for generous colleges. I recommend doing some research by mailing colleges, but i think youll ahve a hard time funding colleges generous for intls, leave aoart intl trnfs

3.sorry, i have no stats

always apply for fall esp if your intl for max scholarship and for visa concerns

Thanks rahimahs.

hey rahimahs,
it was great to hear frm someone who's actually gone through the entire process.

I wanted to ask u if there are things that u did completely differently when applying as a transfer than what u did as a freshman, and mayb sth ull make sure that u keep in mind nxt time u apply for transfer ????

since u already got into a 'highly rated LAC', i presume ur reasoning tests were already good. but i just wanted to ask u if incase u retook them??

what are the factors(essays, recs, SAT,gpa??) that r more important for transfer applicants than for freshmen applicants??

when did u start working on ur transfer application??

well, thats it for now. thanks.

hey duuh

weird name if i might say. First thing, i got into Grinnell as a freshman, not transfer. I got into wash U and was waitlisted at Brown this year as a transfer. I did not go to wash u since the aid package was highly inadequate

I dont think i did anything different, apart from what was required. Altho the differences between F and tran is that you need to have a college transcript too (apart form a hs one) and you need prof recomm, not school teachers, have a advisor/dean recomm (most shools do not require a HS counselor recomm, but yale for example does)

There is no way I would retake the tests. First, there is practically no time. second I scored better than I expected on the SAT I, so my score will likely drop (I already have a 2260), and my SAT IIs are fine (2360). Altho I recommend trying to get 2200 for SAT I if you already arent above that. Experience tells me this is some form of magic no. since scores above this make it easier to get in (altho the admission office will never admit it, since they want a holistic review ha)

Most important factor for a hard to get to school for transfer is prob academics (gpa/SAT). If you already have this, the only other tip would be to get recomm from prof that will be at least okay. Altho the better they are, the better your chances are. But probably the only factor in trans is prob your essay. This is prob the reason I got rejected despite my scores, a 3.9 hs gpa and a 3.84 cgpa at grinnell which you might know is v hard to get. So i'll be spending extra time on these this year

For those applying this year (like me), the best would be to start as soon as your exams finish this fall (so work all through winter break). There are several reasons for this. Firt of all, apps are not available usually before this. Then once you get your grades, (and if they are good) give your profs the recomm to fill and send.

Make sure everything is done by Feb 15 (since deadlines are usually mar 1 or 15, and submit early since colleges sometimes dont get everything you send. I had to send a college my trsnscript twice since they lost the first one (even tho the registrar sent it)

Secondly, never submit anything until you have submitted your app. For example, if I send yale my transcript before I sent my app, they will prob think it was a mistake and discard it, ro they will prob have no file for you to place it in, and the part I or the common app is needed to start your file

Anyone with advise on those essays? Whatever those college admission officers say, THE single most important thing after grades is the essay. They'll try to tell you everything is weighed equally but the essay is EXTREMELY important. So whoever has some helpful tips on it, they'll be appreciated.

I wonder if there's anyone else applying from his/her home country as I am. Its beyond difficult, almost impossible because of the COMPLETELY different college policies. It'll be alot easier for you guys applying from America.

hey rahimahs, thanks!

(yes of course, 'duhh' is a wierd name....but Whats in a Name afterall!)

so, did u come across any intl. transfer student at grinnell? i was waitlisted there , but eventually got rejected. im thinking of giving it a try one more time as a transfer

rahimahs : did you get into grinell after a gap year? How much do you think a bad HS record would hurt, despite stellar SAT scores and good college GPA for a transfer?

duuh and nissud,
I have replied to your questions thru PM

Smith and Bryn Mawr r not full need, not even say need blind...
Both of them r just merit need based ~~

hmmmmmmm what a long break..................................

so, has anybody gotten any further in their 'transferring' quest?

..i was looking for LACs that offer neuroscience as a major and wanted to know which colleges are reputed for having a strong bio/neuro dpt?

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Anyone want to help with proof reading each other's essays?

I need opinions.

Thanks

Oh please PM me if you're willing.

Thanks.
