I want to transfer from a college in Canada to one of the best colleges in the US (namely HYS and more). But is there a disadvantage in transferring from outside US? Or rather, is it ever possible to transfer to a good school from a foreign country? I just graduated from a US high school but don't hold US citizenship; I'm hesitating whether to go to Canada or not.

Each college has a different policy regarding international transfers. Check the individual schools websites.

College in Canada? or University in Canada?

newbyreborn, I'm not sure if I understood your inquiry.

well 1st since u dont hold a US citizenship .. transferring wud be in the international quota and segment..

2nd since You are leaving the country that's why the transfer would also mean acceptance of cross-country system of education..

3rd Princeton has not been taking in transfers as they dont have empty seats and both H and Y are really not the transfer types for intels frm as in ur case Canada..

so in all .,. expects things to be really bad if u wanna do that transfer to top US colleges.. yet well things are possible and yes there have been cases of transfer as such in ur conditions.. so yes possible but highly difficult

SM

College in Canada are like CC in US, University in Canada are like Colleges, are you from Canada? it doesn't sound so

nah, which further complicates things.

btw, i meant university, not college. sorry for the confusion

It might help a bit, because admissions officers would probably be more aware of a Canadian university's reputation (and existence) than one in some other foreign country. Then again, I'd say that it depends on which university you're applying from.

All in all, international transfers are pretty hard to manage, especially to HYS and similar places.

...Is a gap year possible?? Just wondering.

Why do you want to go to Canada first?

I can do a gap year or go to Canada, but I dont think gap year would help.
