international transfer?

how realistic is a transfer from a b-school in the uk to one in the US?
Im currently at cardiff b-school looking to get into university of texas or nyu.Cardiff b-school is in the top 10 b-schools in the Uk.
I`ll probably land up with a 1.1 in my 1st year.
and
Can someone suggest some other universites in the US that might be suitable.

cheers

1:1, you should be able to get in somewhere. Problem is the UK and US university systems are much different, so you may have to do an extra year or something like that. If you get a 1:1, you may want to check out upenn and umich undergrad business schools.

What does 1.1 mean?

a first (highest grade possible)

i dont think that you will be happy in texas.

hey! U of T happens to be a great school! But I agree with SoccerGirl, Upenn is a great school that doesn't really take on that whole "ivy league" persona that Harvard/Yale/Columbia etc. do. You may also want to consider Johns Hopkins University, which is a first tier school and relatively friendly to international students.

What are you trying to "major" in? or should I say, what subjects are you focusing your studies in?

Oh wait, is a b-school a business school?

YEAH... b stands for business...lol
did we get all messed up here :)
if not business you might be happy at texas.

scratch my post. i though that you would be coming from a top 10 business school going to texas and i just thought it might be a step down. sorry. my bad.

OH interesting.. 1.1 is highest grade possible in UK? Could anyone please explain about the grading system in UK... so interesting! Please!

Yeah, I loved England...

Hey thanks u guys fer replying....well ninabanina.......i wanna major in Finance and a minor in Math.
Wanna get into i-banking.
Dont think a degree from Cardiff business school would be of too much help.So definitely wanna transfer out of here.
You think upenn and umich will take someone with a 1.1?
i`ll be more than happy if i get into texas or nyu.Especially Texas.
John Hopkins for business???

I'm trying to transfer out of a highly regarded UK uni... I've only a semester of assessment behind me and I'm working with a 2:1, I believe... ack, I wish I had a first - it would make things much easier :)

hey...sub_atomic which university are u in? and where do u wanna transfer out to?

Texas is not a hotbed for I banking. NYU would be MUCH better, although Penn would be best of all.

NYU is way tooooo expensive fer me...so i guess texas will havta do, provided i can get in there.

I don't know oos costs for internationals, but how about UMich. Having interned at a top i bank, I saw no texas grads. It just isn't on any list I've seen of likely hires. Can you get merit money from a good LAC? Williams, Amherst and Swat land pleanty in i banks. For State schools Mich and Cal, There's Stanford which gives merit aid and Duke.

uncrushable:

st andrews ---> chicago, if I can swing it. I kind of doubt I'll get in, but on the other hand, sometimes I think I should just stay here, because there are a lot of things about st andrews I really love.

hey suze. just checked the UMICH website they dont take international transfer students :-( :-( . I wish someone had given me that advice a little earlier.
U think Michigan state university is better den texas for finance?
I dont know anything about liberal arts colleges, so wouldnt really wanna transfer there.
Stanford would be streching it a little tooo far.
Any other suggestions? i knw i have blocked most of the options. sorry. but thanks fer replying

any suggestions ????

texas business is actually really good. It is a diificult decision to transfer out, because alot of school heavily recruit at the McCombs School of Business and getting a job on Wall Street or wherever is very do-able. The weather is also great. rankings have both the school overall and Fianance as number 5; Accounting is number 1 if that is your thing.
for the record I want to leave because I dont particularily want to do business anymore.
