International Waitlist?

Hi,

I've been waitlisted at Stanford University and have accepted a place on the waitlist. On the other hand, I have decided to accept Cornell's decision (since it is highly unlikely I'll get off the waitlist).

In the event that Stanford University accepted me (which could take as long as two months from now) I know I would lose my Cornell deposit. However, since I also have to apply for a student visa (therefore apply for an I-20 form, etc), would there be a conflict of any kind? (Applying for an I-20 from Cornell, maybe even getting a visa, and then accepting Stanford's offer and reapplying for a visa?)

Has anyone been in this situation before?

Thanks

I received one I-20 from a college I was accepted to. I think you do have to re-apply for a visa, because the I-20 is pretty individualized with costs and the school's int'l admissions counselor's signature and all. See how long it took to get a visa the first time and hope there's enough time to get your visa a second time for Stanford, though since it's summer, I expect the embassy's damn busier than in Spring.

oh good question there... for which i don't have an answer unfortunately. like izzy says, my guess is dat u'll have to reapply for visa. and considering the fact that you u might get off the waitlist as late as june and by the time the I-20 form reaches u, it cld even be july. might be a little problematic... maybe you should email Stanford's admission officer to enquire about this...

same situation here...

well i had inquired on this front and wud not guess as others ( though they guessed it right)...

yes u have to reapply for a VISA and also get a I20 frm the new college issued again.. while it may be late to do that .. but that what the waitlist disadvantge is .. You wont be also able to use the previous visa appointment for this university if u get ur decision b4 the dates..

Though dont worry, if u do get selected opff waitlist and decide to attend, even at a delay in I20 and all processing u will still be able to expedite the process by emailiing and talkin to consulate to get a emergency interview date within 2 weeks. so dont worry, the embassy knws ur situation and has dealth with it before..

people from my country has been in this situation before, and ALL of them got their visa on time (maybe because it takes two days for visa to get approved here).

I heard about that, banedon. I wonder if it's the same here in Romania, or if location makes a difference despite nationality...

visa approval now takes 2 days for all countries almost in the world.. BUT well to get the interview dates remains a prob for most .. thats why the US embassy few yrs ago decided on giving priority status to Student VISA F category .. as of now the only category of visa that is ranked in official pages above the student visa in terms of importance and priority is
Medical emmergency and health based VIsa..

Well .. so dont worry on any issue of getting the visa and all.. its very quick and ..fast
