Hi.
I am an international (Korean citizen, canadian permanent resident) seeking financial aid from US schools.
Ideally, my goal is to apply to the top tier schools such as HYP, Amherst, Williams and Dartmouth that offer a need-blind policy for internationals, but understanding the competitiveness of these schools, i would like to know what other schools that are of lower tier that I could apply to and get significant (30K+ per year) financial aid or scholarship.
I have a 4.0 UW gpa, and our school doesnt rank, but my counsellor put on my form that i'm approximately in top 10 out of 350 (not percentile)
SAT : 750 CR, 790 M, 720 W (b/c of 8 on essay =()
my EC's are pretty stellar; student council president, ran a business at school, internship at an i-bank, and much more with significant leadership roles
assuming that i write a killer essay (although im not sure if the schools of this tier would put much emphasis on it) what level of school would i need to apply in order to get lots of fin-aid as an international?

It's not the level of the school-it how much money they have available from their endowment and how willing they are to pay for diversity. For example, Grinnell, a highly regarded mid-western LAC, has a huge endowment uses it to draw the best and brightest international students (including Asians) to their campus. They are still very competitive for foreign students seeking $30k+, but 12% of their student body is international and most of those students have received generous financial aid.

And LACs do put a lot of emphasis on the essays because they are small schools so the 'fit' and mix of students matters a lot to them.
