Internationals needing financial assistance

Is there absolutely ANY way in which CMU gives intels financial assistance??? I mean they seem pretty harsh on intels, despite being such a "globally" prestigious uni.
And are the rumours true that its much harder for intels to find an on campus/off campus job cos 1st pref is always given to US residents or sum crap

Im just askin cos I'm gonna have to take a loan from 2nd tear or so onward :(

I'm pretty sure you won't get any financial assistance from CMU as an international student. It's my theory that CMU partially makes up for its small endowment by having a fairly large number of international students (10%) who all pay full tuition. I don't know about finding an on campus job. Student visas can restrict how you can work, so you'd need to look into that. Perhaps you should try to find outside scholarship money? I know it's not easy, but it seems like the best choice. Good luck on essay writing.

I don't think that many American colleges give aid to internationals. Only the well-heeled, ancient, estabilished ones like Harvard have a true need blind policy.

As Havaldaar has stated, not many American colleges (even within the Top 25) will give aid to internationals.

CMU has a pretty big international population. Giving them even partial aid would probably bankrupt the school (we're not exactly Harvard-endowment rich to begin with).

The job thing is not true. If anything, a lot of internationals are given jobs while most caucasian kids I know do not work. Giving preference to a certain race would also be racist and would be grounds for a lawsuit.

Well, sometimes work-study students do have priority on jobs, and since work-study is a US thing, international students would not be eligible. However, I'm a US citizen and I had no trouble getting a job without being work-study. There are lots of jobs on campus.

I think CMU've been very candid on its website.

ya...and im actually very impressed that they are, though i might not approve of it. Most places pretend to be open to intels but the truth is something else altogether.

May I know where are you from, silenced?

ps. myself is an international student...
I know the feeling of being charged away a breathtakingly amout of money while not thinking CMU is merited that very number.

^ Depends. As long as you're not a arts/history/english major you'll probably be alright. Everyone's probably sick of the links/rankings I have on CMU's job network so I'll just say that grads can take care of themselves even with relatively huge debt.
