Internationals Seeking Financial Aid

Anyone have any idea of the acceptance rate of internationals needing aid? Or at least an idea of how competitive it is?

at least 10 times more competitive than if you don’t seek FA I guess. I think, for such a prestigious school as NU, asking FA is fatal.

According to Northwestern, they practice need-blind admission:

“Northwestern is committed to need-blind admissions and meeting the full financial need of undergraduate students. Learn more about the grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study options that may be available to you.”

The questions are 1) whether this is actually true, considering that we don’t get to see what actually goes on when adcoms decide, and 2) whether this policy applies to international students.

I would say that it’s better to apply with an ask for financial aid if you need it, and be rejected if need be on that basis (debatable), than to be accepted and realize you can’t afford the full price each year.

^ To the best of my knowledge, there are very few schools need blind to internationals, and NU is not in that list, atleast not for the class of 2014.

The only schools that are need-blind to International students I think are:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
MIT
Amherst

and no more.
Williams won’t be need-blind to international students any longer

from what I’ve heard, MIT will be likely to cancel its need-blind policy to international students several years later, assuming the economic crisis continues.

What do you mean? Isn’t asking less known institutions way more fatal (as in, most won’t even give you any)?
