Internet explorer, safari, mozilla, etc. What do you use and why? What Internet browser is the most reliable/safest/fastest? Thanks!

I use Firefox. I really don’t mind using internet explorer if I have to. Basically I would stay away from Safari, even for macs. I always got more crashes than firefox, even when working on a mac. IE tends to have more holes for spyware, making Firefox a little more safer. Also, Firefox is more customizable.

So in short, Firefox.

Chrome. I used to use Firefox, but Chrome was a little more stable and a bit quicker, so I started using both. Firefox 4 made me make the final switch, though, because I really don’t like the new interface.

In general, I think Chrome and FF are about equal in security, with Chrome having the edge in speed and reliability, and Firefox having the edge in addon quality. IE has always had a host of security problems (although it has slowly gotten better, it still doesn’t match the open browsers, imo). Safari is fast, but I don’t know about reliability, and Chrome and FF are better because of their addons.

Chrome is king. I love Chrome. It is reliable, durable, fast, and just convenient.

I’ll have to check those out. I’m just frustrated with my Internet explorer freezing all the time…

Firefox, reliable and fast w/extensions- Spellchek, Aviary, NitroPDF, IMTranslator

I personally like Chromium (basically, Chrome, but not exactly), but both Chrome and Firefox 4 are excellent fast-performing, standards-compliant browsers.

Which one you use is personal preference.

Well I tried chrome and I already like it so much more than IE. I might try firefox 4 but for now I’m happy with this. Thanks for the advice!

I’ve been chroming it up for about a year now. Really love how quick it is. I used to use safari since I’m a Mac user, but I hated that I couldn’t bring my bookmarks with me when I switched computers. Chrome lets you sync all your bookmarks, remembered usernames, etc with your google account so you just sign in on another pc using chrome and it quickly morphs into exactly what you regularly use. Saves a ton of time. Safari would definitely be second in my book though. Nice, solid web browser.

Chrome tends to be a bit of a memory hog

But Google’s going to fix that

Opera anyone?

Chrome. Safari if something is Chrome-incompatible.

I use Chrome. Used to use Firefox, but it’s just so slow compared to Chrome. The newest version of IE isn’t bad either.

Chrome.Everyone has already said why its awesome!

Well, suppose you have a decent, working computer…

Chrome is faster based on experience and benchmarks. I can feel it load pages faster.

Firefox 4 is a tad slower. But I use it because I think it’s more functional. It does have the most apps, extensions, etc. I use extensions to download youtube vids, make PDF’s of important stuff, change video/audio formats, and manage ad blocker. I like how my stuff are on the FF toolbars. I can add more toolbars if I need to. Everything is right there in 1 click. I can manage all my downloads with one click unlike Chrome where I need to go into the “wrench.” Drop down menus are out; icons are in. (I know that Chrome has those apps too but I don’t like how everything clutters on that one toolbar)

And, Chrome’s ad blocker is very picky and annoying. When I was doing college apps, scholarships, and jobs applications Chrome’s ad blocker would always block important stuff! Then I would have to dive into the options and turn off ad blocker. In FF, there’s one button to just STOP. Also, some webpages (especially job applications) are not compatible with Chrome because the script is only written for FF and IE.

Chrome is very good for most people. VERY FAST. Just not for me.

IE is the slowest. It has been shown in benchmarks too. But I always have IE available as my last fallback option.

Safari has never worked well on my Windows 7 PC. Seems as slow as IE. This is probably because I rarely use it and stuff isn’t cached. Probably faster on Mac… idk.

I still use IE and I always get made fun of…I’m a CS major too. I switch to Firefox for things IE won’t do, but I’ve always liked IE /shrug.

Chrome. Much more speedy than Firefox, and IE.

I like Opera. It has a fair amount of extensions and you can work with it in the best way you figure your computer would like.

Google Chrome is really nice. But I am holding out on all of that until I buy a Chromebook later on in the year or so.

If the school uses any Mickey-Mouse third party software for its online affairs (the school my daughter will attend is half SAP and half Sharepoint (would I like fries with that)) one’s browser choices may be limited by what is compatible…

Hate IE9. Love IE8, laptop auto-updated to IE9,. can’t get IE8 back.

Just liked having the separate search window at the top right in IE8.
