As an international student living in a country where an internet connection is still considered a luxury, and thereby suffering from a terribly slow internet connection, I ask how the internet speed at the Amherst network is? For instance, how long does it take to download a 100 MB file? In my place, it would take maybe 8-10 hours. Hopefully Amherst has a faster network.

I think if your standards are "faster than 8-10 hours", you'll be okay. It'd probably take about ten minutes at the most over the Amherst wired connection. It's not as fast as the cable connections you'd find in a personal American household, but it's faster than DSL or dial-up nonetheless.

Hmm, would you know if Amherst has bandwidth limits or assists in the prosecution of pirates?

"or assists in the prosecution of pirates?"

Nice one. I wonder about that as well, although nowadays I rarely pirate anything. Ain't anything good to pirate! ;)

It's pretty fast, although I don't have any hard numbers. Where it gets really fast is when you're downloading from the Amherst network. On a wired connection, a 100 MB file from the shared network drive is literally something like 30 seconds or less.

And Amherst does not (to my knowledge) "assist in the prosecution of pirates", although the network will detect if you're using something like bittorrent and throttle your bandwidth.
