Internet Speed

What's up with people from UCLA getting 55 mbps and 8 mb/s transfer rates while I'm getting 2 mbps at my dorm at UCI...is something wrong, or does UCLA just get the internet speed with the name recognition xD?

more people on the line the slower it gets. How many people is on your friends line?

http://resnet.uci.edu/bandwidthFAQ.asp

also they shape traffic to basically block torrenting

I think this usually happens in the first week of school, it will eventually get faster in the school year.

Dude, this sucks. I’m literally getting like 20 kbps with my downloads here. I really hope this speeds up, cause this is even slower than my internet at home.

Umm, it is 6:40 AM here, I don’t think too many people would be on, and mbps is still the same…hmm…

Hopefully… =X

Well, don’t see any improvements yet…My friend at UCLA getting 26 mb/s transfer rate when downloading a game off steam, and that’s really impressive. It doesn’t matter when I’m using it, too, since it’s the same at 6 AM and 2 PM and 1 AM. Any idea if this is what normal is, or whether it’s going to get faster?

It might be due to the recent email spam that was going about, hopefully once that cools down it’ll be better?

Sigh I give up. Looks like internet’s never going to improve…

I think the internet is pretty fast o_o But I don’t play any internet games. However, I used the wireless in the Science Library study room the other day and it was horrible. I ended up packing up and going back to my dorm room >< Looks like I’m bringing the ethernet cable with me next time.
