My DC is in high school and invited to spend part of this summer as an intern in a company. The company is a CBD oil producer/distiller. Do you think interning for that kind of company would negatively affect college acceptance?
I’m not an AO but do hire employees (similar process of reviewing resumes for red flags). My guess is that in most cases simply the fact that an applicant listed a CBD producer as an employer would not be singularly disqualifying assuming CBD is legal in your state. Especially if the terms your DC uses to describe the work are professional and even better, technical.
On the other hand, if the app is coming from a kid who has mediocre grades, few ECs and doesn’t elaborate in a professional manner on what the internship entailed, the overall picture (of which the type of company is a piece of the puzzle) might give an AO an impression of a lazy stoner.
IOW, if it’s legal it’s probably OK, depending on the context and the other parts of the app.
I had to google what CBD was because I couldn’t understand how any internship could be seen as negative ; )
I agree with ^ that if it’s a legally operating company and the internship responsibilities are clearly communicated, it should be OK.
That said, I would do a lot of research on the company itself before committing.
