Internship ideas?

Could anyone suggest some internships I might be interested in? I like politics. I live in a fairly rural part of the south. Thanks!

If you’re the right age, look into being a Congressional Page.

yeah that sounds good I always see them on c-span (such a nerd) haha but I am very young for my grade so it will be a while lol

How old are you? Man, I wanted to be a Page, but I gave that up to do another internship.

Look into something at your local tv news, radio, or paper. They may have (or create) something where you can see what goes on. As an intern, be prepared to do a decent amount of grunt work, no matter where it is. Another option is to volunteer to help in a local political campaign. They are getting into high gear for the November elections. If you are professional and willing to work hard you may make connections within the local party who will be gearing up for the 2012 presidential campaign before long. A lot of volunteers show up in the last few months, but there is much to be done well in advance. I would strongly recommend looking into local options, being proactive and showing initiative, over the Page program. The timing is such that even remote areas will have activity, and you can shine and learn a great deal. The Page program is a wonderful experience for young people. I simply do not feel it is the ultimate resume builder, or that you are lacking if you have not participated.

^I agree. An email shot off to a local candidate might earn you an interesting position as well. Don’t be afraid of grunt work.

yes I suppose I could talk to a local tv/ paper/ etc… I dont feel like I can work on a political campaign, because my political party has absolutely no toehold in my area :(

would it still be ok to campaign for local people in my party, even if I know there’s no chance of them winning? Also, my dad has a small business with printing, and even though it may be too late for this election, perhaps in 2012, if I have already gotten on board with a candidate, I can help with their political signs- my dad’s business can make those.
