Internship in Retail Sales

I just got an offer to intern in retail sales at Wells Fargo in Baton Rouge, LA. I think I will take this because it pays fairly decently ($15/hr) and I have no other plan this summer anyways.

Regardless, does anyone what type of responsibilities this type of position typically include? They said responsibilities would include maintaining relationships with clients and make presentations about mortgage loans for real estates (among others). But I have a suspicion that anything with "Sales" in the title, particularly "Retail Sales" is going to involve only calling people about their mortgage plans and maybe manual labor like getting coffee and lunch. I definitely have no intentions of pursuing anything like this for a full-time job after college; I just needed something to do over the summer.

Still better than nothing...right?

I also don’t live anywhere near Baton Rouge (Or Louisiana for that matter).

It sounds like it could involve a little bit of all of that. My impression is that banking sales would evolve around gaining new accounts, selling bank services (e.g., loan services, savings options, etc.), and following up with clients. And even if it did include mundane tasks, $15/hr is a pretty good rate. However, if you live nowhere near that location, would you need to find temporary housing? And would your salary (not sure how many hours it offers) cover that cost plus some savings? You say you have nothing else lined up anyway, so I would weigh the pros and cons of the cost of relocation (if necessary) or commuting and determine whether $15/hr at a distant location is better than $8-10/hr locally to you if you find a regular summer job.

Also consider that sales experience can be good experience even if you don’t want to work in that industry - interviewing is about selling yourself, and most jobs require you to sell your ideas, services, products, or yourself again (for promotions).
