Hey all, I've been lurking a bit on the Vanderbilt forum and I was wondering how available internships are to students? I'm interested in eventually working in entertainment law and right now, I work as a Promotions Manager for a band. Obviously Nashville offers music but does it offer positions in the industry as well?

What is UCAN?
The University Career Action Network (UCAN) is a consortium of 18 national colleges and universities. The Mission of UCAN is to develop and maintain quality products which enable students to gain diverse experiences as they plan their career path and progress through the career development process. Typically, members in the UCAN consortium are small to medium, private liberal arts colleges and universities representing both urban and non-urban areas across the U.S. Member schools are required to maintain a number of listings at 10% of their undergraduate population.

internships available through this consortium at the career center as well as through ASI (arts & sciences internships program). there's also the less commonly taken route of seeking them out yourself, but when push comes to shove, vanderbilt has huge prestige in nashville and therefore it's not hard to get them.

Thanks so much :D

aside from the aforementioned info, just want to add a personal perspective. knowing that i'd have the ability to find good internships was a main priority of mine when selecting a college, and i also wanted the flexibility to do an internship in a variety of geographical areas. from my experience over the past 3 years at vandy, all i can say is that if you put yourself out there and apply for the internships, work with the career center, you will get what you want. from experience, i can tell you that law internships are very difficult to secure because law firms are typically interested in law students and not undergrads, but sell the fact that you go to vanderbilt and what i did (with the career center's help) was found vandy alum that are practicing attorneys in the city i wanted to intern in. 2 weeks later i secured a summer internship in downtown boston.

so yes, in short, you wont have a problem finding an internship. but, on the same note, no one is going to hand you one. you have to put some work in, but you will get one.
