Internships for High Schoolers

If I just emailed professors from Wharton on the engineering school asking if they wanted an unpaid intern, would that yield any results? Has anyone tried this before? And if so, which departments/professors are more likely to take an unpaid intern from high school?

Also, is it okay to just send the professor my resume, or should I ask if it is okay to send it first?

bump. Anyone have experience with this? I would really appreciate some advice.

My son (now class of '16) tried this several times with Wharton profs over the past 2 years, without success.

It’s easy to do research with a Wharton professor once you’ve been admitted to the University, but I think because so many high school students want to be admitted to Wharton, Wharton professors realize that they are being used for those purposes and don’t really take on high school students.
