I am a Petroleum Engineer and was wondering if I could start applying for summer internships in Fall 2014. I have a feeling the answer will be no because I have no university GPA to show off to the recruiters. What else is reviewed when determining the most qualified applicants? Any tips or anecdotal stories?

Just list your previous school w/GPA on the Resume as well. For UTA just put N/A for the GPA. I did this and was still able to get internships.

For PE, it would be hard to get an internship without a GPA but not impossible.

Smaller companies usually don’t care about GPA. My friend got a co-op his first semester as a transfer at a manufacturing company without a GPA but since most oil companies are huge, I would think they would be very particular about 3.0 or higher.

Does recruiting only take place in the FAll? Perhaps I could show the recruiters my GPA in the spring after my first semester.

My school has career fairs both semesters. My last two internships have been from spring fairs/recruiting.

Is your school UT-Austin? @Chucktown

I had 6 job interviews this year and was asked my GPA once by a small engineering firm. I believe the interview process is entirely on personality and skill set. Grades only take you so far after that first job.

No, NCSU. But I would assume UTA would also have a spring career fair considering some of the spring interviews I had were actually in Tx.

And through a quick google-ing, it seems like they do:
