Internships

What about during the school year, do any of the ibanks or big consulting firms have internships? If so, being in school in a big city would be an advantantage over going somewhere like Williamsberg VA (William and Mary)??

Do banks and consulting firms have those opportunites? Would the extra experince be usefull when trying to get a fulltime job? Would they value other business experince as it would be easier to get an internship in NYC than in a small college town.

Experience from internships is a wonderful thing to have and, in many cases, leads directly to a full-time offers.

A large city is usually an advantage in that there are more opportunities, but there is also a lot more competition. Companies do have offices outside of large cities, however, so don't feel as if that's your only choice--just do your research ahead of time and see what's around your school.

If you're looking for an internship during the school year, you find it's a lot harder, as that usually means you're looking for something part-time. Co-op programs work nicely around this; however, that's not always your best bet. Summer internships are more common for larger firms. You may be able to find a part-time internship with a smaller company during the school year (I did).
