In a few days I will travel to Wake Forest for an admissions interview. This is my first interview and I was wondering what should be expected? Are there any questions I should be prepared to answer? Any general tips from those that have experienced admission interviews before?

Also, the site states business causal clothing should be worn. What would a male's business casual attire include?

If you google “college interview questions” you can find a list of possible questions. These can be fun to discuss at dinner with your parents, or in the car on the way to an interview. Some students like to practice having an interview with an adult you don’t know well – like a friend of your parents. This can help you work out being nervous talking to someone you don’t know. The practice questions were helpful for our son – For example, one question he didn’t expect was “tell us about a book you’re reading.” He actually had a book he was reading, but seeing that might be a question he’d been asked, he made sure to be able to tell the correct title of the book and the author, something he hadn’t paid much attention to before.

Don’t stress at ALL about the interview. I think calling it an interview is a stretch. I applied and was accepted ED last year to Wake. My interviewer made it extremely casual, and to me it felt like it was more of a conversation than an interview. My interview seemed very open ended. She asked me why I wanted to go to Wake, followed by asking about my interests, and then since I’m very interested in politics, we spent a while talking about Current Events. And then she asked me if I had any questions. She also discussed a little bit about her experience at Wake, and I discussed some of my dad’s stories from his time at Wake. If you know who you are as a person, you won’t have ANY issue with the interview. Best of luck! Go Deacs!

Thank you for the reply! I’m glad the interview is causal and laid back. I think I know what I would like to accomplish at Wake Forest and could make good conversation on the topics I am interested in. Was your interviewer a current student? Also, did they ask where else you applied? I will likely apply RD to Wake.

I interviewed there a few weeks ago as my first college interview. It was laid back as all others have said. The hardest part was just getting started. They just ask who are you and want you to just go from there. I didn’t think it would be that casual, so I was surprised. I know who I am, but it caught me off guard. Be prepared to tell about what has happened to you and how it has made you who you are. They also wanted typical stuff like hobbies, politics, favorite books, biggest influence ect. Hope this helps. And good luck!

I just responded to harriet123’s thread about this, but I agree with the rest of the advice given here - don’t psyche yourself out & just be yourself. It is important to remember that every interviewer is different. It is important to prepare, but not to stress about every little thing that could happen.

My sister had an interview at WFU recently. They asked her what research she might be interested in, what books she’s reading, what extracurriculars she might like to participate in, hobbies, etc. They did not ask her about current events or politics. As for dress, the two boys I saw both looked very neat. One wore khakis, shirt & tie, navy blazer. The other wore khakis and polo shirt.
