interview at safety school- what other colleges

I have done a few college interviews that ask "what other colleges are you applying to." What do you do when a safety school asks this question? It's my only real safety and i don't want to mention the ivy leagues. and if they have my stats and i name other schools (matches that are better) won't they realize it's my safety? How do you go about answering this kind of question for safety schools?

Somebody in another thread (about college apps) mentioned not naming specific schools, but instead talking about characteristics that most/all the schools you're applying to have in common; eg. liberal arts schools with strong English programs and a commitment to undergraduate research and teaching, or something along those lines.

You are allowed to not answer, or you can do as upsilamba says and be vague, or you can lie and just mention some other schools that are in the same range - there's no way they can verify it!

Or... if you name super really tough schools they might think better of you, even offer more scholarship money? ( or not...)
