Interview Dilemma

Hi everyone. I have a problem with one of my interviews and I was hoping that maybe one of you could help me out. I applied to Harvard as a regular decision applicant. I then received an email from my interviewer in the first week of December about my interview. However, I have not had any contact with her since then. She said that we would meet within a couple weeks of her initial email, but when I responded to her email, she never responded. Around the week that she had indicated would work for her, I sent her another email and asked about when we should meet, but again, she did not respond. I have sent three emails in total and I have not heard back from her on any of these separate occasions. I have tried calling Harvard and they could not give me any more information. What should I do? I feel like it is pointless to send another email, but I really want this interview. Do you know if there is someone else I can contact to reach my interviewer another way? Thanks in advance for your help!

Contact either admissions and/or the alumni office at Harvard and explain how your interviewer became unresponsive and that if possible you’d like to be assigned to a new interviewer. There should be a local rep or something who assigned you to that interviewer and someone from Harvard can contact them to have you reassigned to a new interviewer if possible.

If for some reason it’s too late for them to find a replacement, don’t worry, it won’t affect your application.

Contact the school and ask for a different interviewer. It’s entirely possible since you never got a response to any email that they were marked as spam. Or maybe she was just a flake.

At first this sounds surprising, but then I guessed you called the school and asked for the phone number or other contact info for the interviewer. They are not going to give that out.

@iwannabe_Brown Thanks! I will try doing that today and see how it goes.

@mikemac I checked my spam folder and there are no emails from her in there. Plus, I received her initial email about the interview. I just never received anything after that. When I called the admissions office, I did ask to double check that I have been sending emails to the right email address, but after that, I let them know that my interviewer had not been responding and asked for advice on how to proceed and they told me to just keep trying, which wasn’t really that helpful. I’ll try calling again and seeing if I can get a different interviewer though. Thanks!

I should have been clearer. Not that her emails to you were marked as spam, but the replies you sent to her. Perhaps she never saw them.

As an alumni interviewer, I gotta say that Dec is a tough time to do interviews with all the holiday goings on. However, she really should have gotten back to you.

I would send another email (since the office says to keep trying)

“Ms. Interviewpersion, I wanted to thank you for offering me an admission interview. I know the holidays were a busy time, but am wondering if you will have time in the next week or two to meet?”

@mikemac I understand now. That could very possibly be true. I don’t know…

@bopper Thanks for your advice. I sent her a final email yesterday morning. I think I’ll wait a few days and see if she responds, but I’m planning on calling Harvard or the alumni association early next week if I don’t hear back soon. I would really like to have an interview as Harvard is one of my top choice schools. Thanks!

I agree…follow up with Harvard if you don’t hear back.
