Interview Dress

Next weekend I have an interview with Rice and MIT alumni. Both interviews are in coffee shops. One is at a Starbucks and the other is at a local coffee place. What should I wear to the interview?

I'm a guy, and I was thinking about tan or grey or black pants with a dark grey/black striped shirt and possibly a solid grey tie with black lace-up oxford-style shoes. I've heard people dress less formally and more formally. Do you CC-ers have any suggestions for clothing?

Just look like you meant to put on the clothes. I doubt an interviewer will X you because they don’t like the color of you tie; I’m sure as long as you look put together it will be fine.
My boyfriend wore the same uniform to every interview and coach’s meeting: nice khakis, a white buttoned shirt, and blue blazer.

You don’t need the tie - unless you want it. Other than that, you are fine. You do not know how your interviewer will dress. I have heard them come in sweats, or in suits, or anywhere in between. I think it is a good idea to choose your clothes so you will not look particularly strange with whatever they show up in. So, better than jeans and T shirts.
