So I'm applying RD and a Penn alumni sent me a letter saying that if I want an interview I can contact him.

What if I don't? Will it count against me? What should I do?

Interviews are generally known not to have much of an effect on admissions, if any.

i feel like the interviews can only hurt you, not help you, as a positive one doesn't really get you much, but a negative one could be a major red flag. that said, if you're offered one, I feel like you have to accept it, otherwise you appear uninterested in the school, and it's just bad form in general.

so I should do it...? I've had the letter for like 3 weeks now so this probably won't look good either. UGH. What are the Penn interviews like?

Depends from interviewer to interviewer

For example, my guy was really casual, like no formal lingo or anything, we basically just chatted for over an hour, mostly about him lolz, but I enjoyed it, he brought me down to earth about the school.
