Interview Preparation Advice

I am an international applicant and just got notified of the interview over Skype for next week.

First question:
As an international student, is this a good sign?

Also, I would be grateful if you could give me some advice:
1. What should I wear?

What questions should I prepare to ask or be asked?

I have a very good resume and done some significant researches. Should I bring them? Are there any specific details I should prepare to have asked?

Thanks a lot.

It doesn’t mean much as an international applicant, or at all, that they selected you for the interview, but it is a good thing that you requested one (demonstrated interest).

1) Assuming from your username that you’re male: the important thing is that your clothes are clean and unwrinkled, but it’d be hard do go wrong with a solid-colored button-up shirt if you have one. It’s a bit more fluid for girls, but in either case you’re shooting for “business casual”.

2) The most important questions will be “Why UChicago?” and “What would you bring to your roommate/house/class?” Have good answers prepared for these, not “I like the campus” or “I’m a friendly person to be around.”

3) Have them on hand, and know them well enough to answer questions, but don’t let them dominate your interview. Your application already contains most of that sort of information.

Thank you so much for nice suggestions. I am sure that I will surprise my interviewer!

Your answers are important, but also, HOW you answer has an impact on the interview.

Be confident and converse. Allow yourself to answer “yes/No” questions with more thought. Elaborate if you have something to say. Let your personality shine through.
Allow the interviewer to engage you into conversation.

Have fun. You don’t have to impress them with your stats. I’m sure if they want a list of your activities and interests, they will ask you for them.

@lagunal Thank you.

My interview went great! He told ma that “I think that you are a very good candidate and have demonstrated your interest to the University of Chicago…”

BTW, I know that the interview is formal for UChicago and there are still many admitted students who have not been interviewed at all.

My question: How important is the interview in getting accepted to the UChicago? (For those like me)

@JohnnyNotJohhny…Congrats on the good interview. The opinion is that they do not bear much weightage, but come on! Look at the competition! Something like a brilliant report from the Alumni interview might be an advantage.

I am international applicant too and I haven’t yet received any communication regarding the interview. ( I did select the interview option on the UChicago account website). Which country are you from?

And yeah, was it an alumnus who interviewed you? Since UChicago offers Skype interviews, I guess they can reach out to more applicants. I am just waiting with my fingers crossed!
