I was recently deferred from Early Decision to Regular Decision. I did not have an interview as part of the Early Decision process, and I am worried that could have contributed to my deferral. I would like to sign up for an on-campus interview with an admissions counselor, but even the Regular Decision interview request deadline has passed. Should I contact Rice and ask them if I could still get an interview (and if so, do you think they would allow for the interview?), or would they simply tell me no and think of me as irresponsible (thus lowering my chances in the Regular Decision process)?

I don’t think they will let you. Also, I don’t think the lack of an interview caused a deferral either. They do not carry that my weight, as far as I know. At the same time, it will not hurt to ask. I don’t think they keep a record of the questions they ask. Just follow their instructions, such as not sending in additional reco letters and try to show interest.

They are very helpful. Give Rice a call and ask?

P.S Wait for someone else to post and confirm this. Just in case

I think you already show commitment by having applied ED, but it wouldn’t hurt to have an interview. Call and ask; though they may not be able to help you.
