I’ve seen a couple questions on here about if not getting an interview means that they already rejected you, but I haven’t seen my question so far.
At my school, I know three other people who applied to Harvard (at least two of them Early Action), and they all got an interview, but I didn’t. I applied Early Action too. Before I was considering emailing the admissions office, but I thought it might just bother them.
I realize it would be a little late to do anything about it now, but do you guys think that I should have received an interview communication but didn’t for some reason? I just wouldn’t want there to be a situation like an interviewer typing my email or phone number incorrectly and then reporting that I never responded to their request.
I realized a little while ago that my voicemail has been full for a while, so if an interviewer tried to call me then they wouldn’t have been able to leave one. If that was the case I would imagine they would just email me, but I don’t know for sure.
Yes, you should have received an interview invitation – especially if you applied in the SCEA round and were deferred. Unfortunately, it’s too late for an interview now, as the full Admissions Committee in years past has met from about March 1st to March 19th, but I would double-check your spam folder. And, for future reference, always clear your voice mails so that someone can leave you an important message.
I checked my spam folder a few months ago and did not find anything. I guess it’s possible that they’ve already made all the decisions, but you do think it would be helpful if I emailed admissions explaining that I did not receive any communication, in case I was supposed to and they think I just didn’t respond?
^^ While you could call Admissions on Monday and inform them you never received an interview, it’s too late to set up an interview. Two months ago, yes that would have worked, but now, no. In late March, virtually all decisions have been made and accepted student files have been sent to the financial aid committee, so that they may calculate a FA package on every accepted student who indicated they needed financial aid.
My Harvard interviewer told me that they were really having trouble finding enough alumni to interview this year and she very reluctantly agreed to do a few, so I suspect it’s much more to do with a lack of interviewers than your application. Good luck!
@enjoytheshow Interesting that you say they are low on alumni interviewers this year. How did you learn that? I personally suspended interviewing (and donations) this year in protest at the single-gender social organization policy, but I’d not have suspected that there were enough other alumni of the same view to have made a noticeable difference.
Several long-time members of college confidential are alumni interviewers for Harvard (as well as Yale, Princeton, Brown & Dartmouth – those are the ones I’m at least aware of) so the word has come down through them.
