Is it to our detriment to have on-campus AND alumni interviews? I've heard that the possibility of screwing one up will really hurt one's chances.

On-campus interview: good idea or bad idea?

Also, is the on-campus interview conducted by a senior or an admissions officer?

I understand that seniors have conducted those interviews, but that admissions officers have as well.

The on-campus interview can't hurt. It's just more information in your file. If it is a good interview, it will help, and if it's a bad interview, it may not help as much.

I mean I guess the only difference would be that the person in Cambridge who is working right inside the office may have more of a chance to advocate for you or not, but I wouldn't consider it a huge issue.

Would a bad interview with an admissions officer be sufficiently detrimental to an application?
