As we start this last push of audition/interviews it would be nice to hear about the personal interview experiences of our kids. Of the three auditions for my son thus far, only one school wanted to talk with him and it was a very casual conversation. They asked if he had any questions about the program, how was his current school year going, why did he want to attend that particular program.

I asked my D what kind of questions she has been asked and here are a few she could remember. Mostly from UArts...

Asked her to sing her song as a different character in the show.

Compare summer programs she attended.

What flavor ice cream would you be?

How did you pick your material?

What is your long term plan? 20 years?

If anyone has been to Boco and can remember what was asked please pass it along.

Thanks.

kimoki, they asked her "what flavor ice cream would you be?" :) That's hilarious. Reminds me of that interview when Barbara Walters asked a celebrity, "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?"
I guess it just shows you need to be prepared for anything! One thing kids should think about is how to respond if they are asked why they want to attend that school, specifically, as well as where that particular school falls on their list.

Some schools asked my D to tell a joke!

oh, and who are your favorite actors in the MT field ?And what are your favorite musicals? here my D felt like they were looking to see how educated she was in the area if MT shows, or to see if she has already typed herself- like her fav actors would be ones who played roles she would like!)Also, who do you know in our program?( be warned that some of these schools follow up with the kids in their programs to see if they really know the candidate)

My son has only had two auditions. At the first audition, the chairman of the department met with each auditioning student. In the case of my son, they had him sing again and even worked a little with him on his songs. Then they asked general questions and were very interested in the summer programs he had attended. The second school asked a lot of questions about his training. They wanted to know his opinion about the performances of current students he had seen that morning. Then they asked why he wanted to attend their program. So for him, nothing difficult, just information.

I haven't had any interesting questions. At all of my auditions so far (Elon, Shenandoah and Syracuse) they have asked me if I had any questions.

At Shenandoah, they asked me:
If I played in instruments and for how long
My GPA and SAT scores
Other schools I'm looking at
Acting experience
Whether I dance (to which I responded that "I try to")
