Interview Thing ?

Well,so...I am going to have an interview with a school in New York.I am so nervous because I have never taken an interview before.I dont have any experience in this. Can anyone help me ? With your experience, please tell me what are popular questions in an interview ? How to have a good interview ?
Thank you so much for helping me
P/S:If there was a thread about this before,I am sorry. Please forgive me for my mistakes.I am worrying :(

I had an interview this morning actually. You need to be yourself and be honest with everything you say. Smile a lot and avoid works like yeah, um and like. They ask why they think that going to that specific school is right for you. What will you get out of your experience at that school. A challenge you’ve overcome. Good luck!

Smile and be nice.

Please notice that I will have it through SKYPE
Thanks for your help !
Anh uhm…Out of the topic for a while.I can use Photoshop and design. In the application,I also mentioned my ability.Do you think I can send some artwork on Photoshop in the Art Supplements ?

bumps ! bumps ! help me pls !

Yes you should send examples of your wok

Hi Nicole,

If you’re going to be on CC more and assuming Nicole Nguyen is your real name, I would recommend contacting the administrator to ask them to delete this thread. Then, set up a new account with a pen name, a name that you make up. You always want to avoid using your real name on boards like this for lots of reasons, not the least of which are revealing yourself to a school and personal safety.

Ok, well here it goes:

1) Be prepared, as in practice, Google ‘college / prep school admissions interview questions’ or get books from your library. Check this book out: “The New Rules of College Admissions” pg. 200-214. But remember, you want to sound genuine, not like a robot that was fed words to spit out at an interviewer, unless using big words is something you do normally, keep it mild.

2) Do your research, be specific, nobody likes: “Well, your school is amazing, the opportunities, blah blah, support, blah blah, prestige, blah blah…” Doesn’t mean you don’t mention that but make sure you know things like a certain club, class, or department that seems interesting. Also, mention school traditions and if they have value to it.

3) Common questions:
Tell me about yourself.
Why did you decide to apply to our school?
How do you spend your time out of school?
What other schools did you apply to?
What is your favorite activity/ passion?
Do you have any questions?

4) Make sure you have questions for the interviewer on hand!! Having questions symbolizes curiosity, and they look for that in applicants. Even something like: What do you think is the most important thing at this school?

5) Remember to send a thank you card or e-mail.

I’d love to answer any more questions that you have, and good luck at your interview!
What school are you applying to? That is, if you are comfortable answering.

@SparkleFun:Thanks for your advice.I am applying the Ross School.A young school (founded in 1991) but I really like it

Well, I just looked at their website and it looks like a great school! I hope everything goes well, it seems like a phenomenal place to learn!! :D

I know it’s very amazing. However,I am concentrating on the preparation :frowning: Especially is the question for them.I dont know what can I ask sight

I know how that feels, well again, you can definitely Google that, but here are some:
What is the typical class size?
What is the interaction like between teachers and students both in and out of the classroom?
What are some of the best features of the school?

If you are boarding, ask some questions about that; like Is there WiFi in the dorms?

Again, in this situation, you must embrace Google. Google everything, seriously, you wouldn’t believe how helpful it is. If you have any other problems or concerns, I would love to answer them!!

Once again I need your help :frowning: Now it’s about the thank you note.Must it be long ? Or only a short letter ! I searched Google, some are very long, some are short
Thanks a lot for your help SparkleFun,I am going to have it tonight ;)

It can be what ever length you desire, whether you want to expand significantly, or you just want to thank them for taking the time out of their day. Just be you, tell them how much you enjoyed the interview and expand on your desire to attend the school using concepts and ideas you talked about in the interview. It basically is a way to tie up loose ends. One short paragraph strictly focused on thanking (this will be the shorter one) and another on what you liked about the school based on the interview and your excitement to attend. A half to 2/3 of a page max, unless you have something really significant. Good Luck! :)

I have finished the interview.I think I didn’t do it so excellent because of the Internet’s failure.I had to stop three times. It was bad :(

I would say that tends to be a problem with over the internet interviews, but hopefully the content of the interview will mask the technical difficulties. Besides, it wasn’t your fault!
