Just for everybody's information, Penn does not refer to itself as UPenn.

Hint hint hint...

Quick poll: how did everyone refer to Penn in their essays? I used about 65% Penn, 35% University of Pennsylvania. Those were the only 2 i used.

Same here. I think I used the whole name in the first and last paragraphs and the rest was Penn. You can tell that calling the school UPenn is a pet peeve of his! Probably sounds too much like a state school that way.

Lee Stetson: You should take the tests as many times as you are comfortable. Remember, your scores can only rise....I would not, however, attempt more than several times.

your scores can only rise?

Since they only look at your highest scores, they will not consider later scores that you take later. So there's no way of hurting yourself.

What strikes me is the first part of the statement

"You should take tests as many times as you are comfortable . . . "

Hmmm.

He means that even if you score lower, those scores won't hurt you because they consider your highest scores in each section. Therefore in a sense your scores can only rise.

SO WAIT..does Penn consider highest score in each section or highest score COMBINED???

The highest score in each section. They can even be on different "sittings" of the test.

So, as an extreme example if you got 1) 800 Verbal, 500 Math, 550 Writing and then on your second try 2) 650 Verbal, 800 Math, 750 Writing you would end up with 800 Verbal/800 Math/ 750 Writing

but they don't tdo that for the ACT? sat only?

I don't know the answer to that one, since I took the SATs, but the Penn website does say they "prefer" the SAT, so maybe that is true. I'd call to find out.

no, i heard they wont do that with the ACT....but just on here, not from an official source

You mean UPenn is the good one?

From your screen name I assume you are a Princeton troll!!!! Give us a break - we're not even accepted yet!

20% university of pennsylvania
40% Penn
40% UPenn, hey if the students call it that, why should he get irked when an applicant does

While here, I've heard it referred to maybe once as UPenn...most people--like 99.999%--say Penn most of the time--like 99.999%.

i know people at upenn, they call it upenn... besides doesn't penn sound even more like a stateschool?

i actually would prefer UPenn, sounds better.

ahh will i be rejected for not knowing about the school i'm early decisioning too?? I'm freakin out I used both Penn sometimes and UPenn sometimes in the essay. I even have UPenn used in the last sentence... I thought it was a great essay until now.. I mean even their website is UPENN.EDU!! damn..
