Interview?

So, I really want to ask Barnard if I can get an interview for Fall 2012 school year, but I live out-of-state, in California. Do I have to be in New York for the interview? And what should I say when I call the admissions office?

I’m REALLY nervous about calling them, and scared I’m going to massively screw it up.

From the admissions website:

Don’t be nervous!! The folks in admissions are really nice. It’s pretty early to be requesting an interview, though… Also, have you ever been to campus? It’d be really great if you and your parents could visit!

The interview is not necessary (to be honest, unless you’re visiting Barnard and NYC on the way, it might not be worth it). You can also interview with an alum in your area in California so you don’t have to go all the way to New York unless you want to. I also agree that it’s too early to interview. Perhaps in the middle of the fall semester would be better.

I wouldn’t make a special trip to New York to interview. The alumna interview works out really well. My daughter interviewed with a woman who lives in our neighborhood. The alumna interview becomes difficult only if you live in a rural area where it may be difficult for them to find an alumna to do the interview.

Thanks to all of you, this helped me sort out some confusion! Would I be able to call and request when I could have it, or would they immediately assign me to the earliest time avaliable? Because I do agree it’s too early to interview, but I want to make sure I get a spot.
I’m not so sure if I’ll be able to visit the campus because of financial issues, but I’m sure going to try. I REALLY want to though! <3

If you visit campus, they will schedule the interview when you visit. If you interview with an alumna, the alumna will contact you to schedule a time.

Barnard couldn’t find an alumna in our area to interview our daughter, so they arranged for a telephone interview. At first our daughter was disappointed, and it just might be a coincidence, but I believe her disappointment vanished as soon as the big envelope arrived!
