Interview

Hey feature Wellesley women.

Did you guys have your interview? I had mine a month ago and my interviewer was awesome. So nice. She basically said I'd get in and invited to some alumni breakfast thing. Lol. Does this mean anything?

I hope I get in.

Good luck to all :)

As someone who’s interviewed prospective students like you, I can say that the interviewer’s feedback about you is only one part of the application. Once interviews are completed, the admissions committee re-reviews all applications in their entirety to assess your candidacy.

Good luck though – Wellesley is an amazing place to spend 4 years. :)

To those of you EE/RD applicants who have requested interviews and have already received your interviewer’s contact information, please be courteous and reach out to them within a few days of receiving their information. Interviews have to be completed by January 31 and we all know everyone’s schedules are busy (…but of course not too busy for Wellesley!).

If you haven’t received your interviewer’s contact information yet, don’t worry – it’ll come soon!

I am in China, and the admission officer tells me that there may not be enough interviewers in my region, so I am still preparing to receive my interview notification. How is Wellesley interview look like? Will it be online or in Starbuck or library or my school or somewhere else? How long is it? What clothes are proper? Thanks a lot :)

I had an amazing interview!
It was very long, about an hour and a half and then another half an hour with my mom (in case she wanted to ask any questions). But this woman was so inspiring, she just made me fall in love with Wellesley!
It was very casual, at her house.
The dress code is usually casual for an alumni interview.

My interview was really weird. The interviewer asked me what my GPA was and made me list off every AP class I’ve taken. I told her I’m interested in environment studies and she went on a long tangent about how she finds science to be dry. It wasn’t awful, but compared to my other two interviews (for Barnard and Smith) it was a very different experience; those two were more of casual conversations that I really enjoyed. Did anyone else have an interviewer who asked about GPA and stuff like that? I thought interviewers weren’t supposed to do that…

@yxy1028 - I try to hold interviews at local coffee shops like Starbucks, etc. I try to find places that are easy to get to, have parking or are close to public transportation, and offer things to do nearby if parents are waiting during the interview. I know other alums either do something similar or hold interviews at their homes or their work offices.

Dress is generally casual, but I wouldn’t go in ripped jeans or anything. Look put together. You don’t have to wear a suit if you’re not comfortable with that, but do look like you put in some effort and didn’t roll out of bed. First impressions do count. Also keep in mind where you’re interviewing – Starbucks will be more casual/relaxed than someone’s office in a law firm, for example.

@theforestagain – Sorry to hear about your interview experience. Generally speaking, there are no strict rules as far as what questions to ask or to not ask. We try to assess if you’re a good fit for the Wellesley community, but to a certain extent, regardless of where you interview, it is luck of the draw. For the most part, the alums I know who conduct interviews are really great, and it seems like others on this board have had positive experiences.

Please don’t let 1 person make or break your decision about Wellesley (or any other school). If you’re admitted, try to attend the admitted student weekend as well as any events in your area. See if you like who you meet there and then make your college decision. At the end of the day though, you can’t go wrong with Wellesley, Smith, or Barnard – they are all great schools :)

i tried to set up a schedule with my interviewer twice but she stopped contacting me both times so idk. finna get rejected so fast.

@2chainz - I would reach out to your regional admissions rep (the person who initially set you up with the alumna’s contact information) and explain the situation. She might be able to connect with your current interviewer or set you up with someone who has more availability in their schedule.

yeah guys i had an awesome interview but i had trouble getting in contact. originally the regional director was going to do the interview but then she couldn’t so it took a couple weeks to find her replacement.

i did an interview in october and it was great! btw, it was at a starbucks. the lady was super nice.

basically, i talked about why i’d be a good fit at wellesley, how my leadership and coming from a strange background (gay+muslim) has shaped my LGBT activism experience. Also, she asked me about my courseload and I talked about taking a lot of APs and how I like it. I also talked about being a gender studies major and how I got into LGBT activism and how I want to be surrounded by women who are really passionate about a particular topic if I had the chance to got Wellesley.

She also gave me contact info to a student who went there and we talked about gender studies.

@wellesley10: thank you so much! i’ll try that
