Interview

hey guys, my parents and i are citizens of the US… we are residents of Massachusetts but i go to school in india.
I was wondering how will they assign the interviewer? based on address or school?

if based on school, when do people in india normally hear for the interview?
because i have been getting lot of interview offers from other colleges but not yet from harvard.
thanks

Although you are an American citizen, because you are going to school in India, you will be interviewed there. So, you should probably follow these direction: https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-process/what-we-look/interviews and explain in your email your situation.

On the page it says that I should wait until they contact me.

But should I email them, like you suggested?

If i were to not say anything what are the consequences? and when do you think i may get an offer?

Thanks

@gibby also because my other interviewers are from MA and I have scheduled the interview with them over the phone.

Yes, I would email intlinterview@fas.harvard.edu and ask them about the interview process for an American citizen living in India.

Thanks a lot :slight_smile:

From your experience when do people in India hear back?

@gibby

Some applicants from India are never interviewed – that’s why I think you should email them.

I see…
How much impact does the interview have compared to other colleges?

I mean I have heard that if harvard contacts you (to an int’l candidate) then thats a good sign.
@gibby

Interviews are supposed to be the least important part of the applications process. Whether a student receives an interview, or not, depends upon how many alumni are living in the area and how many applicants have applied. Therefore, receiving an interview as an international student should NOT be taken as a good sign.

Hmm. Anyway no harm in asking for the interview. thank you

Did you go to Harvard?
@gibby

^^ No, my daughter just graduated from Harvard.

Oh I see. Congratulations :slight_smile:

Do you think the experience I have had in MA (11 years) and India (6 years) is an advantage? over the int’l and american candidates?

Admission to HYPSM is about top grades/test scores plus strength of “character.” Colleges learn about your character from your essays and teacher recommendations. So, it’s impossible to say whether as US citizen living in India that the experience will give you an advantage. Much depends on what you write and how you say it (the tone of your essay) and whether your teacher echo the content of your essay in what they say about your “character.”

Alright. Yeah, my optional essay has a complete focus on the transition, my experience and development of character.

this isn’t a chance me message. Im just throwing it out there.

In terms of grades, I’m pleased with my school record of ranking 1st in a curriculum which is considered college preparatory level. But, im not confident with my SAT scores. Took it twice, with a superscore of 2150 (M 800, R 660, W 690). Math 2 790 and Physics 770. I know it doesn’t matter, but I’m applying to the Comp Sci concentration.
