How many of us (applicants from India) got an Interview and when, where and how?
I spoke to an admissions representative a few hours ago and he said that very few students have been invited for an interview from India this year.
^^ They only accept 4-5 students a year from India so it makes sense that there haven’t been many interviews.
@rahuilmars231 Do you mean that they indicated that they are done giving out interview invites?
@intellectboy did you get one?
@S121212 I got an email from Harvard Admission on January 22nd, that soon I would be contacted by an Interviewer to fix date, place and time for Interview, when contacted on Feb 2, they said they had shortlisted few candidates and I was one among them, so I shall surely receive. But when contacted on 24th Feb, they said they are winding up with interviews this year, but asked me to wait for some more time. I have few connections with Harvard students from India, and they stated that they had interviews somewhere around Mid-February. So currently I am confused and exhausted waiting for an interview.
@CR7yolo did you have an interview? @MITer94, @“aunt bea” any suggestions?
@S121212 The person I spoke with sounded very vague although he said not every admitted student gets an interview. And that fewer students than usual were invited for interviews this year in India.
Funny isn’t it? I actually fooled myself into thinking that I had a shot at Harvard. I’ll go and continue to wallow in my mediocrity.
To the people who have revived interviews, you’re basically accepted. Congrats. You can consider your life officially changed!(for the better of course).
@intellectboy Please try not to screw up that interview. Be a little polite and you’ll be accepted for sure.
What are your stats by the way?
Actually, the problem is that it’s been over a month now, and no further info yet. And these are days when interviews actually wind up.
@intellectboy do you know of anyone who has been admitted to Harvard without an interview from India (since you have so many connections, can you maybe ask them?). Hang in there man, I am sure they’ll figure out something. You should be honored just to get called for the interview. Just curious: did they explicitly say to you that you were shortlisted for an interview (that the interviews are selective?)
@rahuilmars231 I feel you man. We can just hope now. Did you try asking him why fewer students than usual got interviews this year? Also, if you don’t mind how did you get in touch with the adcom (did you just call up admissions or something and ask?)
As said, I received an email that I will be soon contacted by an alumni or admission officer to schedule an interview (which isn’t done yet). FYI, the email did not state any information other than that (neither reasons for selective interviews or else) but I suppose that for countries like India and China where highly qualified applicants apply for limited seats, limited interviews for shortlisted does make sense. Anyways, I am expecting that they realize and conduct asap. Fingers crossed, and hoping for best. @S121212 @rahuilmars231 did you receive such notification post your Common App submission.
Please someone else suggest.
Dude you seriously need to chill. You’re among the very few students for whom an acceptance is practically guaranteed. They’ll call you. Do something to assuage your anxiety in the meantime.
I just got an interview call from my regional admissions counselor! I really want to present my best self in front of the very person determining my decision. @rahuilmars231 From where do you gather that the interviewed applicants are essentially admitted? Just saying, if you have some credible source, I can probably raise my expectations a bit!
@Ambitious27 congratulations!
I do not have a reliable source no. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that Indians who are offered an interview-I believe only 4-5 people are- do get in (atleast a majority of them do)
Where and when did you schedule the interview? And did he say anything more about the number of students that are offered interviews?
Thanks @rahuilmars231 . A regional admissions counselor evaluates applications from a region; he/she does not reside in that particular region. And so, my interview is scheduled on skype. The counselor wants me to schedule the interview in the coming week, so we’d probably fix the fifth of this month.
Did they email you?
@Ambitious27 When did you receive an email from them?
@intellectboy Last night… How selective are these interviews, really?
In the sense, how many applicants are offered an interview, on an average?
