Interviews

Sooo...who else wasn't provided with an interview? And for those who did receive one, how do you think it went? What was it like?

It went pretty well. It was an on campus interview (didn't get an alum one) but it was still evaluative. I felt it went really well, sometimes I felt I talked a bit too much, which may have confused my interviewer. I was initially a bit nervous because I'm not great as describing my area of research to non-science people, but i'm glad she understood what i was doing. It was like a conversation, not at all like any of the horror stories i've heard. Pretty relaxed and low-key. Also, I wouldn't worry if u weren't provided with the interview, seeing as how it's not a key part of the application anyway.

LOL, wrathofgod, I totally understand the "too much talking" syndrome. It happened to me during an interview for another college, and the guy who was interviewing just kept on nodding his head. I felt really bad...however, I felt like I had a lot of information to cover. Are interviews really not a key part? Mine went so well :-(

I had an on-campus interview...I think it went okay. I had an amazing alumni interview the week before for Wellesley so I guess my Yale one wasn't great in comparison but overall I did well. My interviewer was from Scarsdale HS, one of the best public high schools in the US, and she lived in my area, so it gave us something to talk about. She asked me plenty of difficult questions, but I hope I improvised well enough!

I tried to get an alumni interview as well, and I called my ASC director, who said he remembered assigning me, but I didn't get a phone call from anyone, so I just let it go, considering I already had an interview.

I had both an on campus and alumni interview. My on campus one was good, but nothing to write home about. I told my interviewer a couple of funny stories about my school, some things that drew me to Yale, and my interests and then it was over. Very short. I think there's about a 30-40 min limit.
My alumni interview however, was awesome. My interviewer was young, which was great because I feel like the conversation flowed better. And although it got off to a rocky start (I don't think she's done too many before) we got to talking about EVERYTHING. Railway systems around the world (eurostar!!), parties at Brown v Yale, etc etc. Then we kept in touch by email.
But who knows what this will even do for me in the end. At least I had fun. :)

I had one alumni interview. It lasted for over an hour and a half and the interviewer seemed to really enjoy our discussion so I think that it went pretty good.

Although the interviewer told me that Yale normally doesnt care about the interview unless there is a spectacular write up by the interviewer
