Interviews

Has anyone been contacted for an interview for RD?

yea i got contacted this morning!

My daughter was contacted last week.

I had my interview the day after Christmas.

How did it go? Any suggestions?

Guys - I wouldn’t worry much about interviews - doubt if it has any weight. Of course, you want to present yourself very well, but don’t sweat if you don’t get contacted and don’t worry about preparing etc.

Do off campus interviewers view your application before the interview?

@minimango

I interviewed for Rice for years. The only information I had going into the interview was student name, school, email, phone number, and potential area of interest. I had no information on scores, grades, or content of the application.

Sorry to piggyback, but how formal should one dress for an off-campus interview?

College interviews are typically not formal like job interviews, but you want to look neat and put together. In almost every situation, business casual is fine. Often your cue will be the setting; you might dress one way if your interview is in a law office, versus a Starbucks.

One tip I read: dress like you are giving a presentation to your class at school.

@JonTargareyan. My son had the interview and it was pretty informal. It was about 90 minutes long and he said it was really good. The gentleman took the time and gave him a good view of life at Rice and his own time at Rice. He was extremely gracious.

I rememeber how nervous I was for the interview for my son. They did say if it went bad it could hurt you. Luckily my son didn’t think about the comment. I remember when they were done the person who interviewed him came out and asked if I had any questions too. I was caught off guard a little. I remember there were others waiting to be interviewed and therefore it seemed they limited them to 1/2hour. They pretty much asked typical questions. Though after reading stuff on college confidential it can be very intimidating. It probably also depends on who does the interview.
