The only difference since the pandemic is that Yale only offers interviews to some applicants. They chose to only interview those that they need further info from. So if they don’t need further info, they won’t offer an interview. If they do offer an interview, the applicant could potentially perform well enough in the interview to assuage whatever doubts that resulted in the interview request.
But it has nothing to do with interest. Interest was shown by applying REA.
The interest In which I’m referring, is from Y, not my daughter. She is obviously extremely interested in Y, such the reason for her applying REA, as you said.
So, it seems that they might have some amount of interest, if they are reaching out for more Info.
Interviews can be enjoyable. I hope that is true for your daughter. Clearly they want to know more about her. So she is not an obvious reject nor an obvious accept, but is likely a very possible accept, worth spending more time on.
Thank you! The reason for my question is because I am familiar with the fact, that in my particular area, interviews were never given, and didn’t matter. Appreciate your input
Yes I think so. My daughter interviewed last year EA at Yale and was rejected. Last year they were upfront about saying interviews were for candidates they needed more information about. Not sure if it remains the same this year but test optional certainly lead to application increases so I would think it might? Good luck and let us know how admissions goes.
Thank you. Yes, they are saying the same thing this year, that they need more information. Do you know if you are in an area that usually conducts interviews. I hope that your daughter is happy where she wound up!
As many have said already, I’ve heard interviews are scheduled if more information is needed. Does anyone know if receiving/not receiving an interview is good/bad?
To put numbers to it. Last year there were close to 47,000 applications, 2,169 admits and about 18,000 completed interview reports (so more interviews offered). Getting an interview is not a bad thing, but don’t read too much into it.
