My son has submitted a bunch of applications including one to Pomona. We live on the other side of the country and probably will not be able to visit. So, the son called the college earlier today to request an interview with a local alum. He was told that it was too late to request an interview for regular decision. Has anybody else run into this? With our daughter, who's already in college, her interviews for schools she couldn't visit were requested when she submitted the common application or its supplement. I was a bit surprised to hear that Pomona shut down the alumni request process on December 1, a month ahead of the regular decision application deadline.

I'm curious to know if anybody else has had this problem. Heads up on the interview requests!

Several of the colleges my older two kids applied to did not do interviews after a certain date in the fall. At at least one school you had to request the interview by Oct. 1 and it had to be done by Dec. 1.

I am sorry though -- talking with an alum might (or might not) be helpful, and certainly interviews are always helpful for homeschoolers in terms of the admissions process!

Yes, I think any interview--even one with an alum- is helpful for homeschoolers. Unfortunately, this kiddo had not firmly decided on all of the schools he was going to apply to until mid November, Pomona being one. And we had no problems with DD who went through this last year with comparable colleges. The son has had no problems with any other schools, so, I guess this is another one of those learning moments in the role of homeschool advisor.
