Interviews

How are the admissions interviews like at WashU? I'm a junior and am planning on visiting WashU in May but I think I might wait till next fall for the interview. I know it's optional but it still makes me pretty nervous to think about. Also, is this considered as part of the admissions process? can it help or hurt your chances? thanks :)

Interviews at WashU are definitely viewed favorably! It really depends on whether you interview with an admissions officer or a student. I visited in October and interviewed with a student, and it was probably the best kind of First Interview since it was extremely laid back. We sat outside on a bench near the admissions office, and just talked about my interests and activities. Of course, be prepared to answer “Why WashU?” in a thoughtful manner, preferably referencing specifics of your visit. Good luck!

Yes, if you have an interview it will be considered by adcoms during the admissions process. It shows your interest.
