Ok, so what are your thoughts on interviews?
For ED applicants vs. RD Applicants...etc.

Usually not important. If it’s important, they’ll tell you it’s important.

Really, interviews are generally crappy in terms of evaluating a person.

I don’t think ED vs. RD matters. Some schools interview you as part of the application, others are optional (which could be an additional plus or minus depending on how you do), and other schools only have informational interviews (those only let you know more about the school but don’t have any weight in the actual admissions process).

On Campus/Admissions Officer vs. Off-Campus/Alumni?

Interviews can only hurt your application so if you can get it waived then do that. If you can’t, then just do the interview and try to sound interesting/smart. Interviews are really a pass/fail thing.

Did any of you have an incredible interview that left your interviewer stunned? (And were accepted thereafter?)
I’m graduating in 2011…I just like to be prepared!

My tufts interview went really, really, really well. I think it was a pretty big factor in my decision. MY other interviews went well also. And interviews CANT only hurt you. They can help you convey your personality/reasons for liking the school in ways that might be hard to write down in the essays. Of course, if you interview poorly you might not want to do them.

I agree with skateboarder on every point they made. The valedictorian from my sister’s graduating class left the impression on his 2 most important interviews that he was ready to conquer the world with his abundance of ambition, if not slight arragont nature. BTW, he had his pick between Harvard and Yale. Somehow his Harvard and Yale interviewer were the same person, as he went to one for undergrad and the other for medical school. That guy is Yale 2012. Interviews are definitely important.

Thanks for the information!
Here’s a little bit more on my situation:
I was exceptionally shy from 6th grade to the early portion of 10th grade (08-09 school year). Now, I’ve attended a leadership conference, founded two clubs, (both of which, I am president of) and even did really well in my yearbook interview in May of 2009. (Am officially a member of the staff, as a rising junior! :)) I’ve really raised my confidence level, and am gradually becoming better at public speaking. I am also VERY PASSIONATE about the school!
What time of the year are you expected to have an interview, if you are an ED applicant?
