Intl. Chances at MIT, Wharton, UMich, Stern and Haas!!

Hi, I’m a student from Australia and I want to apply to these colleges:

MIT

University of Pennsylvania

University of Michigan

Carnegie Mellon

NYU

UC Berkeley

Im planning on majoring in Business.

Could someone assess my chances on getting into these universities?!?!

Academics
I am currently in Year 11 over here.

SAT Scores:
SAT I: 2350

SATII:
Maths II: 800
Physics: 780

Courses:
Our school system is way different over here, but generally our exam (HSC)are IMO twice as hard as American courses and at least on par with GCSE and IB work.

These are the courses I am taking:
**Advanced English/B

**Economics/B
(1st in class!)

**Software Design and Development /B
(1st in class!)

**4 Unit Mathematics/B
(1st in class!)

**Physics /B

These courses count for 12 Units of work in the Australian system, which is the optimal workload for all students. NOTE: These are difficult courses!!!

My school does not offer an overall ranking for students. But there are 180 students in the grade and I have ALWAYS come in the top five at the end of the year and I have subesquently won certificates and awards for that.
I probably will become Dux of my school.

**Top ten in the country ** for Software Design and Development, Maths as well as Economics. :)

I currently hold a full scholarship at the most prestigious school in Australia, to the tune of $40,000 or so.

Honors and Awards:
Academic awards relating to end of year class ranking x 3
Prizes and awards for coming first in subjects x 8
WHOLE LOT OF UNSW Maths and Science Comp awards (Distinction +)

Won Australian Plan Your Own Enterprise competition
Run an eBay Biz.

UNSW ProgComp Finalist 07’

Athletic Status:
School Basketball for entire HS life
School Soccer for entire HS life
I do some Martial Arts

Leadership Positions:
President of the Junior Toastmasters Club
Team Leader of the Programming Competition Team
Soccer Team captain

Volunteer/Service/Other Work:

School Social Service Programme - worked in school kitchen and nursing homes
Regular Monthly Blood Donor
Work Experience Programme at a finance company
Worked for the World Vision 40hr Famine programme (helped organize)
School Opinions Writing Group
Member Chess Club (Lol!)
Member of the School Cadet Corps
Internship at University of Queensland (Worked as a Lab Assistant)

I know a lot of Java and C++.

I have also done several individual research projects regarding general statistical stockmarket analysis and the performance of environmentally friendly companies versus the broader stockmarket. Also have interests in artificial intelligence.

I have created several computer programs (all by myself) to help my research in these areas :)

Based on these credentials what are my chances of getting into my desired colleges? How can I improve my chances?

Thanks

P.S Im Australian Chinese xD

Nice job looking up the rankings and just putting those schools on your list...

loslobos71: What's wrong with that? He's an international student, and might not be able to afford a comprehensive visit. He wants to go to the best school possible, and rankings provide a generalized assessment of each school in relation to the others.

Rankings are generally a bunch of crap. It's not that hard to go online and research schools. Simply looking at a rankings list doesnt do anything for you.

can i get chanced please?

Before you get chanced, do some research for yourself and see where you would fit.

umm... thats why i posted here...

Yes, i'm sure we can perfectly tell you where you would fit.

I might not be able to tell which college suits phr0z the most but I can certainly tell that loslob is a prick at the very least.

That's your opinion.

Mmmm....Lots of jealousy in this thread. I wouldn't call you a modest one, however. Why do you think the Australian system is much harder than the US system? What makes you qualified to make such a judgment?

I have seen the papers and the course material for the US AP courses from collegeboard.com as well as from several friends I have over there.

I can seriously say that the AP courses lack the difficulty of the Australian ones.

And I find that the courses are pretty easy here too....

Oh yeah, could someone QUANTIFY MY CHANCES IN BEING ACCEPTED AT THE AFOREMENTIONED COLLEGES!?!?!?! I just want to be chanced! :(

loslobos71 - shut up and go away - your opinion is not required

loslobos71 is such a troll!!

I'm not a troll in the slightest.

Keep saying that to yourself..
When your very first post is

without even evaluating the OP's chances (which are good btw), and continue arguing stupidly like that, then you are the trolliest troll of all.

I was just putting it out there that this was a clear case of going by prestige and not fit--which is exactly what one SHOULDN'T do. Call me a troll all you want. Whatever gets you off...

good chance at all of the schools except for MIT and UPENN
u have a good scholarship, why not study in AUS. and which school is it for anyways? Melbourne?

could someone clarify my chances in percentage for MIT?

Just because you come from the country that produced the Crocodile Hunter and AC/DC, I think you've got a great chance.

thanks gnrfan, lol

oh and to loslobos71, i have one final message to you:
