int'l students who have gotten finaid - plz read

which are the colleges that are need blind to international students?

<a href="http://www.bibl.u-szeged.hu/reac-europe/intfinaid_awards.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bibl.u-szeged.hu/reac-europe/intfinaid_awards.html</a></p>

Check that out for a list of colleges that offer financial awards to applicants.

Btw, although some colleges do claim that they are need-blind... I doubt so because most of the people whom I know who got into that university are self-funded... so it may not be that need-blind afterall!!

Thanks a lot Kenyon!!!!!!! That list is really, really helpful :D

btw, im checking out all the colleges you guys have gotten into (with finaid). thanks again!!

im pretty sure if you've lived in a US state for over 2 yrs, or something like that, then you qualify for state aid...

Oh well, now come to think of it, it's really funny to be called Kenyon!! :D Imagine someone calling Kjoodles Princeton!! Or Izzy - Knox!! :p

I got in MHC and my family contribution is $2160 which is higher than what my frnds from the same country have to pay.

(KENYON_10) How much is your family contribution? and (nhyn)..have u got any family contribution to pay as well?

Apart from the family contribution bit..the rest (loan, work-study) is ok with me. My int'l MHC loan is $2625...yeah, around $3000. I guess I will be able to clear away the loan from the money I will earn from the on-campus job and an extra job over the summer. I dunno that well.

Thanks Kenyon_10 and Nhyn in advance.

er...the difference between the billed money and the aid given is only around 50$, but my family will have to cover personal and book expenses, which, I gues, is around 1000$.

nhyn, I think u got a really good finaid package!!

tibbhumo, whats MHC? is it Mars Hill College or Mount Holyoke College or somplace else?

Anyway, this thread has really helped me to learn about LACs. Getting financial aid at universities seems to be much harder than at LACs, probably because they're usually more well known. I would be really happy to get accepted at a LAC, though, because I think student life is great there and you can get an excellent education.

Mount Holyoke College.

Yep, LAC's be good! thumbs up

"nhyn, I think u got a really good finaid package!!" =?im convincing myself of the same thing :D (dont forget the loan :|)

are u applying next year or wat?

Yeah. I'm a junior so I'm applying next year and I'm starting to put together a college list or something. I really hope I'll get in somewhere! Oberlin's one of the schools on my list right now. I'd be really happy if they accepted me and gave me enough money to attend XD

apart from tuition fee, room n board, family contribution, there are some other hidden (well, you can call that) costs as well.
Some of them are:
- books/personal expenses
- Student Activity Fee
- Health Insurance especially all Int'l Students need to buy it.
and some more...dun know because they don't really like listing other hidden cost in the fear that students will have second doubts about joining the particular college. wink

I am glad my Student Activity Fee and Health Insurance costs are included in the fin aid package.

yeah my package covers those too...Tibbhumo, I was wondering if a summer job could really help us clear the loan, coz, u know, we have to pay our expenses while we're living there (during the summer) T_T
<a href="http://www.vietabroader.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=1050&hl=hidden+college+cost%5B/url%5D">http://www.vietabroader.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=1050&hl=hidden+college+cost</a> here is a thread about "hidden college costs". Its a Vietnamese forum but the articles are all in English (the original poster collected them) so you guys can have a look :)

For my financial aid package, the costs included are tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies and mischelleneous(oops! hope i spelt it correctly) fees (which includes an estimation of the cost of a return air ticket!!)

In my case, I think I will be able to clear away my annual loan because I have already got an on-campus job and in the summer I will look for another job. Moreover, I heard that campus job normally gives you around 1800-2200. Well, I hope so..

But I want to do internship as well. Summer job will make that impossible, i.e. like two sides of a coin..will have to choose either. lol

About summer expenses, room charge is free at my college but food is not free, will have to buy from co-ops, that is what it says on their website. It depends on your college to calculate summer cost. Have a good look at the coll. website.

@kenyon: now THAT is a good package :D
@tibbhumo: yeah maybe ill have to search the coll's website again for this kind of info (searched but to no avail T_T, may very well do it again). But isnt the campus job money included in the package? i mean, mine consists of grant, campus job (2100$) and loan => i cannot pay the loan with the job cox there're other expenses waititng to be covered.

hmm.. nhyn.. u make me skeptic... u hav a loan of $3000, i hav a burden of $5000 per year... datz 20,000 by graduation....
but good thing is my Aid doesn count employment... as in campus job isn included... i gotta pay around 3040 dollars excludin the loan... so i m not sure as to how happy should be...

ED2,
Trinity College, CT btw.... and i m a bangladeshi

Cheerz all.... n good luck

I just got a $10,000 merit based scholarship from suffolk university.

Hey, it's been a while since I've posted on this thread. I've been soooo busy lately :)

Thanks for all your replies! They're very helpful in my college search.

Well, I guess that a lot of people have heard from colleges in the past week or so... To all of you who've gotten in, congratulations!!!! And to all of you who haven't, I'm sure you'll end up somewhere great in the end :)

So, one thing I wanted to ask was whether anyone has gotten any financial aid offers that you could share with us :D

I was also wondering when colleges notify you about finaid. Do they send the info along with your acceptance letter, or do you have to wait for another couple of weeks or something?
