Hi, I just joined this forum after going through some very informative threads and hopefully someone will be able to give me a clear answer to my question to put my mind at ease.
I've had my hopes set on attending Columbia University since I was 17 but for some reason my performance in high school wasn't as stellar as I expected and for the moment Columbia is a bit out of reach. I'll be starting my freshman year at the University of Pretoria and my plans are to spend the first year there and transfer to Columbia as a sophomore. Yes, I know the acceptance rates are very low so please don't start telling me how impossible or far-fetched it is because I'm willing to to work really, really hard.
Anyway, my most important concern is, does Columbia give financial aid to "International Transfer Students"? because there's no way my parents can afford 50K a year.

The only way anyone here will know is the same way you will know–the website

reading for transfers
<a href=“International Applicants | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions”>International Applicants | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions;

All aid is need based. All accepted students are eligible

You can work really, really hard and it is still a long shot. I think an international transfer is unlikely. And with only one year (one semester at application time) of college, your high school record will still have a major impact. Have a Plan B.

However, for transfer students C does not provide 100% of need, and they give even less to Intl. students:

Thank you for your immediate replies! Yes I visited the website but couldn’t get a very clear explanation about the eligibility criteria for students who are both transfer AND international.

Many schools don’t state clearly (if at all) what their FA policy is for transfers. C is one of the few to be very clear about FA for Intl transfers:

and I do have a Plan B. Baruch College. I know they have a Wall Street career program and since wall street is my end goal I think it’ll be very helpful. again they only select a very limited number of undergrads for the program. but everything i read on CUNY colleges (including senior colleges) give a very negative outlook on the whole system. is it true what they say about the low standards of these colleges? personally, i believe that in the end it’s up to you to get good grades regardless of the academic rigor of the college. I mean I know Baruch graduates who have FO jobs at goldman sachs and morgan stanley. can someone please give me an honest opinion? I’m sure if it’s good enough for Goldman sachs it can’t be that bad.

This is the FA & Scholarship forum, please start a new thread on the CUNY or Business Majors forum to ask these questions.
