I got into Michigan as an out-of-state applicant. Is the difficulty of that comparable to getting into WashU? I know overall WashU's acceptance rate is way lower than Michigan, but it is harder to get into Mich OOS than in.

Nowhere close. Michigan is largely numbers driven, while WashU is holistic.

That does not mean that it is easier to get into Michigan (which I know it is), it is a different way of looking at an application.

I'd say that overall WashU is probably harder to get into. But it is by no means exceptionally harder. An applicant who gets into UMich from OOS has a relatively good chance at WashU also....well, at least IMO

from my experience, i would say that wash u is harder to get into. i applied to michigan OOS in early february and was accepted (and later into the honors program) in 2 weeks. as for wash u i got in RD but didn't get any merit-based scholarships, etc.

It is comparable. I would say if you got into UM OOS you have a 85-90% shot of getting into Wash U (if interest was demonstrated)

well i would say it depends on the circumstances for umich acceptance. they give priority to those who apply earlier. i have a friend who got in at umich who would have less than 50% chance at WU
