Intro to Neuroscience VS Biology

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman who intends to major in neuroscience. I’ve been looking at degree and course requirements, trying to choose my courses for this coming year, and have managed to thoroughly confuse myself. Are there any current BU neuroscience students here?

I’ve noticed that not only is a year of basic biology not required for the program, but also that several higher-level courses which have basic bio as a prerequisite allow the introductory neuroscience sequence as a precursor instead. The second semester intro to neuroscience course is similar to that of the biology sequence in that both semesters cover cell biology. Because of these similarities, is the basic bio sequence still required or recommended, or would it be redundant? I’m not sure if I will be going into research or medicine; would the intro to neuroscience sequence fulfill the pre-med biology requirement?

Thanks in advance for your insight, I greatly appreciate it.

It will satisfy requirements but it is recommended to take cell biology or human physiology. Taking NE101 instead of BI108 will save you from taking a lab section which I loved. I took AP Bio in high school so I technically didn’t need Bio 1 anyway. I say do it
