Investment Banking Workshop

Hi, I'm a senior in high school, and have already committed to Indiana university. I have direct admission to Kelley and am very interested in the IBW. Besides studying the technicalities of investment banking, is there anything I can do this summer to better my chances of getting into this workshop (i.e. summer internships, books)? What internships could a high school graduate acquire that pertains to investment banking? Thanks in advance.

There aren’t really internships for Investment Banking for non-college juniors. There is money on the line and normally these firms aren’t going to give someone in high school a chance when there are plenty of college kids wanting to get in.

I would say that the best thing to do in summer is to have a good time but also just keep reviewing things you learned in high school. Go over your calculus, algebra, statistics, and econ to keep up and make sure you don’t forget. Or even prepare a little extra, for example if you were in AP Calc AB, learn some BC concepts, or if you were in BC, learn some Multi-variable Calculus concepts.

The best thing you can do this summer is take a challenging I-Core pre-req at your community college. The second best thing you can do is study for a challenging I-Core pre-req that you are going to take in the Fall.

If you can land an internship at a local financial services firm, it will help you out. It doesn’t have to be anything major, even a local PWM firm is better than nothing.

From now on, I would appreciate if you all could private message me, instead of posting on this thread. Thanks!

Enjoy your senior year summer. Most friends you won’t see for a long time. By the time fall of junior year rolls around there are a lot less kids interested/qualified for the workshop compared to those who came in first week of freshman year wanting to work in IBanking. Enjoy your summer and honestly research every major at Kelley, research all the major career fields of business. I can’t tell you how many of my friends from freshman year have changed their major multiple times. In general not just for the workshop, look to complete some of the tougher ICore pre-reqs this summer. M118, M119, A100, E201 are all notoriously hard, but really they’re manageable if you have the work ethic that most workshop kids do. Good luck.
