Investment Banking

Anybody know about the Investment banking opportunites at Indiana Univeristy? I am not new to these boards and have never heard that name come up before and know that IU is not on any of the recruitment lists of the bulge brackets firms. but looking through the IU website it looks like they get really good placement. They have a Investment banking club that placed almost all of its members with ibank jobs and some at bulge brackets.

I knew that IU Kelly was decent for MBA but anybody know anything about the undergrad program there? How are the clases? The school life?

I am a legacy at Indiana and didn't think it was that hard to get into in the first place so will probably apply as a safty.

<a href="http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibw/%5B/url%5D">http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibw/</a></p>

Anybody know about this club?? Or if there are clubs like it at other schools?

IU is ranked #7 for FInance by US News, why don't any ibank recruiters come??

only recruits at a small number of target schools. For the lesser known schools, they usually offer the lesser known positions. If you want to get into IB, I strongly recomend that you do a summer internship in order to get you foot into the door. Here is a website that should help you:

<a href="http://www.seo-ny.org%5B/url%5D">www.seo-ny.org</a></p>

Check out the seo career program.

Make sure you develop you network skills. As for the MBA, try to get it at one of the top 10 colleges in the country. Don't settle for anything less.

i am still confused. i have looked been reading posts and ibank websites and they seem to say that ibanks are only recruiting at ivys and some other top schools. but looking though the career websites at different schools (IU just for an example) and found that on those websites all of the Bulge bracket banks come and recruit for ibanking positions. So why on the ibank websites do they have a list of 10-15 really seletive schools saying that they visit them when on the school websites it looks like gs morgan and others all come??? i put in the link for gs recruitment at IU. Just so you know im not making this up.

<a href="http://ucso.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/schedules/SchedSearchResults.cfm%5B/url%5D">http://ucso.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/schedules/SchedSearchResults.cfm</a></p>

The thing is the ibanks list those 10-15 schools because those are the ones they heavily recruit at...if you look at most ibanks 90%+ of their recruits come from less than 25 universities. That doesn't mean that if you go to IU you can't an Ibanking job it means that it will just be harder, they recruit there because it is a top finance school but IU graduates are not as prevalent on wall st. compared to the students from those 10-15 schools.

<a href="http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibw/member_placements.aspx?type=Full-Time&year=2005%5B/url%5D">http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibw/member_placements.aspx?type=Full-Time&year=2005</a></p>

that list looks pretty damn nice to me :o

22 out of 1,098 business seniors that reported (92% of class) at IU got I-bank jobs while at a place like wharton 108 out of the 344 (59% of class) that reported went into i-banking...so really if you want to have a good shot at an ibanking job what sound better a 2% chance or a 31% chance?

31%

:)

wharton is da king.......

is cornell good for ibanking? I mean they're ivy league, but I've never heard too much about their business/economics program.

Cornell's AEM program is heavily recruited. It's a very strong program. Even if you're not in AEM and are just part of the arts and sciences school, you'll still have good chances since it's an ivy.

also note that not every single business major wants to become ibanker.. for wharton the number is much higher because many finance/econ majors at wharton decide to either: create companies, go to grad school(jk jk!), pick up a straight managerial position at some consulting/technical company, work at other financial institutions such as banks(bank of america) etc. or do something different altogether.

So 31% acceptance is not accurate at all. I have another question for you all. When you say work at an ibank, is that specifically an entry analyst position? I mean, janitors work at ibanks too!

What would be some of the lesser competative ugrad schools that the ibanks still recruit at and you still have a decent chance of geting a job as an analysist at a BB firm???

what would be the ideal major(s) at those schools?? Finance/ Accounting???

UIUC????

IU???

UTexas???

USC
UIUC
Texas
Notre Dame
CMU
UVA
NYU
BC
BU

Do you really think BU is recruited?? I went there and really liked the campus and everything but it kinda seemed to me like the job prospects werent that great. Especially for some of the more prestigious careers...which would be nessicary to pay off that rediculus tution.

About UVA and USC...I also really liked those schools but thought that they were really selective?? How do they compare to places like BU, GWU, Umich, RU...anybody know about University of San Diego...???

Selectivity...Recruiting...??

selectivity: UVA & USC are more selective than any of the schools you mentioned & they have better recruiting for ibanking. USD, from what I know, is not very recruited by ibanks. UMich is a great school, if you're a good student, you can definitely get in and IMO it is better than UVA & USC. It is one of the best schools for ibank recruiting too. I'd definitely go there if I wasn't going to Wharton.

What is IMO???

in my opinion

CMU is also good at ibanking(quantitative focus and #6 overall undergrad buz).. CMU is on most lists and less competiton because people at cmu have more diverse interests + the school is smaller. its got great quantitative reputation and biz school doesnt have to compete with engineering because most the engineers want to be hardcore engineers not im an engineer going into finance like many soft engineering programs do.

where is this list of best undergrad. business programs? who is on it?

I'm having trouble b/c I want to go into investment banking after college, but I want to go to a small college like amherst or williams.

which is perfectly fine if you go to a top LAC like those
