Does anyone know if NYU sends all their accepted students an invitation before their acceptance letter, or is it possible that some of the invitations are mailed after the acceptance letter?

I think this is pretty much how it works..

haha that almost answered the question mememe

uh what?

can someone please reaffirm this? i'm skeptical because i heard some unadmitted students 1-2 years ago got invitations, but weren't actually accepted.

This is the official statement from NYU:

Starting in late March and extending into April, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosts a variety of events on and away from the NYU campus for freshmen who will be offered admission. As invitations to these events arrive in mailboxes across the country over the next few weeks we want you to keep a few things in mind.

First, our admissions process continues through the end of March. While we are in the process of finalizing decisions, we must also begin mailing program invitations so that families can make necessary travel arrangements. However, at this time we are still actively reviewing applicants and making admissions decisions. As such, not receiving an invitation is in no way an indication of an admissions decision. All applicants will receive official admissions decisions notification on or around April 1st.

I got it from here:

NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > On and Off Campus Events

That still doesn't really answer the question. Or maybe I am not understanding what the website is saying. Since they are still making decisions, it means that there are going to be some people who get in but do not get an invitation until after April 1st correct? It said not to assume that just b/c you didn't get an invitation, that you have been rejected.

Anyone else see the interpretation I am looking for? =)

I dunno if I'm just stupid, but your question is: "If I haven't received a letter, is that bad news?"

A: Not necessarily, they just might not have made a decision on your application yet.

It is possible that you will get the invitation after you get your acceptance letter.

I actually received two invitations in separate envelopes in the mail today, which is strange. They're in the form of greeting cards. The cover of one reads, "NYU is heading you way!" The other reads, "Congratulations! Welcome to NYU," and the inside reads, "Your official offer of admission to the College of Arts and Sciences will be on the way to you!" I applied to Stern though. Oddly both have different dates for receptions while one has locations in the Los Angeles area, the other is at the Silver Center for Arts and Sciences.

I got the exact same thing today, Royle.

Dice, did you apply to Stern too? I'm a little confused about my admission into the College of Arts and Sciences since I applied to Stern.

hmmm

sounds like instead of getting gsp'd, you got cas'd

:P

honestly the only way to truly find out would be to call up and ask. So do that and it should be cleared up in no time.

Actually I applied to CAS, which makes a lot more sense. I can't offer any insight to your predicament. Perhaps a mix-up? The cards are probably identical. Clerical error I'm guessing. Maybe you should call them, yeah?

crzy2rite - it is this simple:
1) you received an invite, you are "in" (official notification will follow later), or
2) you did not receive an invite, but you still may get a regular notification that you have been accepted come April. However, you will not get an invite to the special orientation sessions, as they are taking place in the beginning of April.

Hope this helps...

^It did, thanks...I guess i am just the idiot! =)
