So, did anybody find anything out about this? I would call, but… I’m not sure what my GPA is, and don’t want to hear them say “You weren’t invited because you aren’t eligible.” Haha.

Not everyone just wants to graduate as an “econ” major. As far as I know, UCSD does not offer any business or accounting related programs or courses.

also @ thebigsh0w I recommend the school u fit in at the most. Everywhere you go (including CC) you get back what you put in, so if your at a school that you dont like very much, your less likely to “put in” as much, therefore you wont get much out of it. I say you go look at both schools, and ask yourself which one you feel most comfortable at. If you’re not comfortable you’re not gonna study. UCSB and UCSD are both excellent schools, don’t let rankings put you off any school.

okay so i went to Spring Insight this weekend and found out more about the honors program. we get the invite for the honors program in May if we have a 3.6+ GPA and submit the SIR for UCSB.

as transfers we have to have a 3.6 when we transfer, and we can’t apply for the honors program our senior year (if your GPA is too low to qualify for it right now) since we wouldnt have enough time to do the 5 upper division honors requirements. these are completed by taking an honors class, honors seminar, or completing an honors contract with the professor of a regular class. this is basically an additional project/assignment that is worked out on a 1 on 1 basis with the professor, and essentially turns it into an honors class for you. in addition, there are 10 hours of community service required per year.

being in the honors program gives you graduate level library privileges, and most relative in my opinion, allows you to register for classes two days before the rest of the campus.

you can also get honors at graduation by being in the top 20% of the graduating class, high honors by being in the top 8% (i believe), and highest honors by being in the top 2 or 3% (not sure the exact percentage but it was low). there is also honors for each major/department but im not sure about the details regarding it.

im not sure, the best thing to do would be to contact the College of Letters and Science directly.

i would assume that Spring '10 grades would affect it, but since they said the invites are sent in May it would seem that it’s the GPA they admitted you with. my semester won’t be over until the end of May.

the other question that i thought of after spring insight is whether the 3.6 that you have to maintain is cumulative (CC + UC GPA), or does it become a 3.6+ UC GPA that we have to have.

I got an invite online at the same time I received my acceptance to the school. I haven’t really gotten much more information from the honors program though…do I have to do anything else to make sure I’m in?
