IOE courses Michigan

How hard are IOE courses at Michigan? How do they compare to mechanical engineering courses? What about to the engineering common core requirements such as Math (calc, linear algebra), Physics 240, Engineering 100, 101. Are they harder or are they of similar difficulty?

Also, how are the classes curved? Are they curved generously? Can I expect a higher IOE GPA than my overall GPA?

Also, any suggestions for a 300+ level Humanities course that's required? Any easy courses or any courses that have equivalent credit at Washtenaw Community College?

Undergrad IOE courses are not difficult. I haven’t taken any MechE classes, but I doubt they’re easier than IOE courses (in general).

If you are fairly strong at math, the common core requirements (calc sequence, linear algebra for IOE, diffeq for other engr, physics sequence, engr 100/101) are not difficult either. Keep in mind there are a wide variety of Engr 100 sections, so the difficulty of those may vary (some are really easy, though).

Different courses/professors have different curves. At least in IOE, professors are not required to follow strict curving rules. There are some courses that will give out a grading breakdown at the beginning of the course and not curve at all.

If you actually try hard in IOE, there is no reason for your major GPA to drag down your overall GPA – even if you are not the brightest student, the material covered in the undergrad curriculum is not conceptually challenging.

IOE courses are easier than Mech E.

For equivalent credits, there is a database on the umich website that will help you. Idk the link off hand, but it’s not too hard to find.

What about doing IOE on top of an MechEng minor or EE minor or CS Minor or Stats minor?

Is there a lot of projects or groupwork in those IOE classes? Or is it mostly exam scores like in the first 2 years?
