Iowa State or Oklahoma State for pre vet/animal science major?

Hi,

I've been accepted into both schools, but OSU has offered me a full scholarship(I live in Illinois, so I'd be paying out-of-state tuition for both) I've read some conflicting things about OSU though, mostly that the people there are racist and close minded, and that the education was not as good as it could be.

What I want to know is if their Animal Science program is any good; if it is I can deal with the people there and just go there for my education. I don't care about partying or anything like that.

I do plan on applying to vet school after I complete my major, and I know Iowa's vet school is good, but I haven't heard of anything about Oklahoma.

If anybody can give me insight into Oklahoma's Animal Science program I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I am a 4th year vet student at Iowa State, and I think it’s a great program overall (of course all schools will have their advantages and disadvantages). I didn’t go to undergrad here, but from what I hear their animal science department is great, too. Plus it would be closer to home for you (unless maybe you’re in the southern tip of Illinois). That said, I may just go where the money is. You need to keep in mind that you will be spending at least $80,000 for vet school alone (and that’s if you go in-state; if out-of-state it’s about double that), so you don’t want to spend a bundle on undergrad. Then again, if what you’ve heard about OSU is true, it may be best to avoid it. Is there a reason you aren’t considering a school in Illinois?

P.S. It’s also important to consider what your “back-up plan” will be if you don’t get into vet school–most schools let in around 10% or even less of their applicants (more difficult even than med school).
